If you buy a DVD-burner, you can store up to mp3's on one DVD, and find a nice safe place for it, just in case something happens. Same, of course, goes for your pictures and documents, if the hard disk crashes or a virus decides to wipe all.
How to Install a Sony Walkman MP3 Player: 13 Steps (with Pictures)
Hope this helps. Yeah I know all of that, thanks though.. The problem is when I do that the files have been converted to Openmg and I can't find a way to convert them back, plus they have lost all id tags.. Copy them back from your backup system. No backup system? This may be your free lesson about it.
You may be learning the backup lesson the hard way. For me I just re-rip the content off my Audio CDs. Well it looks like that's what i'll have to do, i'll lose alot of songs but lesson learned. This actually works! I decided to tidy the ID3 tags on my PC an re transfer all my mp3 files. Bad decision To do this I initialised the HD5 disk to remove all the data as sonicstage doesn't overwrite tracks which are already present. Its simple and it works.
All functions on the HD5 worked as before when the files were transfered with sonicstage. What a relief!

Using the Sony NW-E00X on Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, etc.
Brilliant, thanks very much. One more step towards independence!! March 25th, 3. As a newbie, I don't want to run the risk of trashing my sony NW ef so before beginning this can someone clarify the exact steps to take, ie do I have to format the player before beginning etc, or just delete the OMA files currently on there from sonic stage in windows?

Hallo tropdoug you don't have to format anything. You don't need to delete anything - that is what JSymphonic does. JSymphonic worked perfectly for me on my NW-E and on a friends NW-A albeit with a error message saying I should use compatible software If you need anymore help, just ask.
March 30th, 5. Thanks for that, ok all steps have been completed, but I have one problem, when I open symphonic, I cannot navigate to where my player is mounted which appears to be at the very top of the tree, alongside my ubuntu filesystem HD and the Windows HD. Some advice on either moving it, or specifying the correct path would help. Also when I downloaded the symphonic program, I put it in a new file I made in my 'Home' folder named 'Downloaded programs' you can see my windows hangover hey! I did not want that to happen, as all I wanted to keep in that folder would be the unpacked packages, so I still haven't worked out what folder on Linux is the equivalent of the 'Programs' folder in windows?
But I guess to keep the integrity of the system, I should install all new programs into the same folder structure, should I not? I will learn linux, I will learn Linux, I willll Attached Thumbnails. March 30th, 6. Doh, thanks for the help everyone, I suddenly realised what a dill I was being, and found the path just as Antonr described.
