Seriously, I made this as a side dish for a family party last year and I think someone licked the casserole dish clean after it was gone, lol….. Going to be making this again for Easter side dish, simply the best! I really want to make this I just have two questions.. Will it be hard to find? I think I would prefer the usual grated bread crumbs.. Will I have to adjust the baking time if so?
I promise to come back with a review and also on pinterest!! Hi Jennifer, white cheddar cheese is sold in blocks, usually right there with all the other cheeses in the gourmet cheese section. The higher quality cheese does make a difference, so I suggest using it! I made the recipe and froze in smaller tin trays for my later. I baked it while baking something else and it came out a bit chewy — I would adjust the baking time if I froze it again. I made it exactly as you said…and everyone loved it.

I thought it was great but the sharp was a little too sharp for me and i would either use less pepper or omit it. But again.. Everyone there said it was the best thing on the table for Easter..
This Mac N Cheese was outstanding. My son is a huge Mac N Cheese fan and loved it. He even took some to his girlfriend and she would love it and she is a very picky eater. I am sharing this on Facebook. This looks amazing and fairly easy to make. Do you think I can double the recipe and bake in a large glass rectangular pan in stead of two casserole dishes? The cheese sauce is the perfect consistency.
How would you feel about baking it right before you travel? You could just reheat for 5 minutes in the oven when you arrive at your destination before serving. My only fear in not baking is that the pasta might absorb more liquid while traveling and change the texture, possibly making it too soggy. I just wanted to say thank you! This Mac and cheese is super easy to make and every time I make it for friends and family it is a hit!

The only thing I did differently was to brown one pound of bacon and add it to the cheese sauce. This is the recipe that turned me on to mac n cheese. I did not like it before I made this. Hi Lynn, to freeze the macaroni and cheese, place in individual buttered ramekins and cover tightly with aluminum foil. Uncover, top with the bread crumbs and bake until the topping is golden brown, about 20 minutes longer. Mmmmmmmmmmm…………always so good, but tonight it is being tossed with some left over pulled pork too.

Thanks for the recipe! I will definitely cook this dish again and possibly add some grilled jalapenos. I love homemade mac and cheese and cannot wait to try this version. I make browned butter once a week and find that toasting bread crumbs in the browned butter really adds a nice flavour to them. My browned butter bread crumbs will be atop this mac and cheese when I try it this week.

I substituted smoked paprika for the nutmeg and used cheddar, parmesan and fontina cheese. Went great with the BBQ dinner I made tonight. I tripled the recipe to feed around 14 people and there are tons of leftovers.
Highly recommend. Love the swap for the smoked paprika and the notion of serving it with BBQ. Just muffin tins slicked with butter or oil and a hot oven? Just a thought. Great recipe!!!!! Thanks so much!!!! I used to eat mac and cheese all the time when I was studying in the U. After first testing this recipe a while back I have made it often, sometimes switching the types of cheeses, yet strictly following the recipe. What I love about it is that you can easily prepare it ahead of time, that it also freezes amazingly well just add the crumbs once defrosted , and that you can easily change what type of cheeses you use.
I made it again last night and used a few different types of smoked cheeses from this recipe. The final result was fantastic, with a smokey, yet not too overpoweringly so, flavor. Many thanks for letting us know just how much of a keeper this recipe is….
