This app is so awesome, the sounds, the layout, the features. A couple of things on my wishlist: MIDI out, so I can record and edit my many mistakes in a piano roll editor. Thank you :. I've never touched a real steel guitar in my life, but Steel Guitar let's me pretend to be Steve Howe during the soaring sections of 'And You and I' to my heart's content. The touch controls are fantastic, and the instruments, amps, and effects all sound great.

Creating a virtual pedal steel is challenging as the instrument requires a lot of bending and overtones, sliding etc. Wavelore did, from what i can tell, a really nice job. It's unfortunate that it isn't Mac compatible.

Dec 17, AM in response to Scott Dennis In response to Scott Dennis I am a long time professional pedal steel player, as well as an engineer, studio owner, and computer audio devotee. I also operate a web site that is devoted to delivering custom steel guitar tracks via the internet, so this topic hits very close to home.
I am all for the empowerment of individuals to create music using computers and whatever ancillary tools are available. I certainly do it frequently in my work. And I would guess one main objective for all of us who do this sort of thing would be to create tracks that are a musical and convincing substitute for the real thing.
That said, while I applaud the efforts of Wavelore, Band-In-A-Box, and others, I don't feel like any of them are close to giving anyone the ability to replace a human steel player.
In much the same way as drum machines and drum software have not yet eliminated the need for a real drummer in many situations, the current crop of virtual steel guitar software has yet to impress me to the level where I am concerned about the future of the instrument in a real-time recording context. But these products certainly have a place, and are useful to folks that don't otherwise have access to a real steel player.
So I am in now way trying to bash them. In fact, I marvel at their technical achievements. And to be fair I don't think that these companies necessarily intend for their products to completely replace a real player in all situations. This topic caught my eye for obvious reasons, and in reading the thread I felt the need to climb on my soap box. This sort of topic has been debated for years in forums ad nauseum. So I apologize Just need to spout a little I guess Message was edited by: Steelkat.

User profile for user: James Holloway James Holloway. Pedal Steel is one instrument there's others, maybe Monroe-style bluegrass mando that I just don't think can or should?
There's ways you can sorta fake pedal steel on a guitar, Roy Buchanan was a master of that. Really, the software is trying to get the tone of the great players. I myself play with a fantastic pedal steel player and he does perform a lot of the parts on our recordings. Fortunately, pedal steel, like electric guitar, is very easy to record and we get some great sounds.
I am also a life long drummer.
